Tensions, homesickness, and becoming teammates again in a relationship Financial pressure, loneliness, homesickness, differing paces of adjustment, changing roles, and uncertainty about the future can strain a couple’s relationship after migration. This workshop offers a safe space to understand relationship changes after migration better and explore ways of staying emotionally connected.

Many couples find themselves asking after migration: “Why have we changed so much?” One partner adapts to the new environment more quickly, while the other may still be grieving the life left behind. One may feel exhausted by work, visa stress, or uncertainty, while the other struggles with loneliness or feeling unseen. Differences around parenting, shifting roles, work, family left behind, financial pressure, and even emotional intimacy can place strain on the relationship. This workshop provides a safe and non-judgmental space for migrant couples and married individuals to explore common relationship experiences after migration, including: • Why migration can place pressure on relationships • Different adjustment speeds between partners after migration • Homesickness, anxiety, and emotional stress: when emotional struggles enter the relationship • Tensions around parenting, work, responsibilities, and changing roles • Emotional distance, hidden resentment, and misunderstandings • How to become teammates again, rather than two exhausted people standing across from each other The aim of this workshop is not to find someone to blame, but to help participants better understand themselves, their partner, and build a safer, more connected relationship through the challenges of migration.
